About Me
Hi there! I'm Declan, founder of DB Health & Nutrition.
I wasn't always into health and fitness. Most of my 20s were spent as an overweight binge drinker, out most weekends, starting a new diet or gym program every so often only to fail a few weeks in or sooner! I tried everything, and nothing worked.
I didn't like most photos of me and always picked my clothes carefully. About 5 years ago, after getting engaged and seeing a less-than-flattering photo of myself, I was at my heaviest and felt every pound of it. Something had to change. I decided to give weight loss another shot. I committed to a gym and a nutrition program. I was determined to make it stick, lose weight and make my health a priority. In the process, I lost 4 stone (56 lbs.) over the course of a year and achieved things I never dreamt I would, like running a 50km race and completing 2 obstacle course races.
Learning From Failure
I’ve made all the weight loss mistakes, but the hardest setback was regaining some of the lost weight. After getting married, I became less focused on my health and the gym, and my weight started to rise.
When I missed workouts, I would overeat. My mind set was still in the all or nothing approach, if I wasn’t perfect I would completely go off the rails.
I realized I needed a more balanced approach.
This prompted me to study health and nutrition more deeply. I learned that a sustainable, healthy lifestyle isn't about intense workouts and strict diets but about balance. With two amazing little girls now, life is busier than ever, and daily gym sessions aren't always possible, and that's okay. Once I stopped striving for perfection and focused on consistency, everything changed for the better.
Over the past three years, I've been coaching part-time, helping others find their own path to health. This year, I decided to go full-time with DB Health & Nutrition to dedicate myself completely to this mission.
